It was a proud moment to be working with the Eurovision team in 2023, where we were responsible for creating the delegate stage plots. These were distributed to various departments so they could track performer and scenic movements before the rehearsals had started, allowing for effective pre-programming and one source of information for the other departments in a clear, concise, and standardised format.
Working closely with Stage Management, Technical Production, and Stage Crews, Venier helped to ensure seamless transitions behind the scenes from one country to another, within a 48 second time frame. We worked with Disguise and the Screens department to pioneer and implement a new digital spikemark technology which we programmed and helped develop during the technical rehearsals. It was our responsibility to ensure its flawless operation during the live shows, contributing significantly to the success of the critically acclaimed and multiple award winning event.
If you’d like to know more about the spikemark technology, John Venier, director of Venier writes about it in his blog, The magic behind a Eurovision changeover.
The task of learning to use and implement a brand new type of software to indicate the scene changes for all delegate performances was one which John undertook with all of his enthusiasm and dedication. The digital spike mark software was a beneficial part of the whole show and without John’s involvement was unlikely to be as successful as it was.
