The 67th Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool has not only captivated audiences but also garnered an impressive array of prestigious awards, solidifying its legacy as a phenomenal event. Hosted by the BBC on behalf of Ukraine, the production’s excellence has been recognised across numerous esteemed platforms.
BAFTA Triumphs
On 12 May, Eurovision 2023 took home the coveted Live Event Coverage award at the 70th BAFTA Television Awards, triumphing over notable competitors like The Coronation Concert and The Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance. This accolade highlights the event’s exceptional live production and marks a significant achievement in its expanding trophy cabinet. In addition to this the production team clinched two BAFTA Television & Craft Awards on 29 April; Director: Multi Camera: Nikki Parsons, Ollie Bartlett, and Richard Valentine and Entertainment Craft Team: Julio Himede, Tim Routledge, Kojo Samuel, Michael Sharp, and Dan Shipton.
Royal Television Society Honours
In March, the Royal Television Society (RTS) honoured Eurovision 2023 with two awards; Live Event: Recognising the outstanding execution of the live broadcast and Entertainment Performance: Awarded to Hannah Waddingham for her exceptional hosting. Earlier, at the RTS Craft & Design Awards, Eurovision won the Production Management Team award, further acknowledging the meticulous planning and execution behind the scenes.
Additional Accolades
The success of Eurovision 2023 continued with numerous other awards; Best Music Programme at the Broadcast Awards, Outstanding Event Production at the TPI Awards and Outstanding Achievement and People’s Choice at the BBC Awards. The production’s commitment to celebrating music and unity was praised by industry experts, who commended its ability to make “Ukraine feel at home in the streets of Liverpool.”
Changemaker Award
In September, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) accepted the inaugural Changemaker Award from the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC). This award celebrated Eurovision’s significant cultural impact and its role in promoting unity, diversity, and inclusivity through music.
