For a few vibrant days, La Plage du Martinez on the Boulevard de la Croisette was reimagined as the internet’s new check-in point: Motel Yahoo!—a bold fusion of modern and vintage digital culture. Designed to reconnect with both marketers and consumers, Yahoo’s beachfront activation invited visitors to “check in, log on” and explore its suite of marketing solutions, all aimed at driving deeper audience engagement.
Beyond content sessions and on-site meeting rooms, Yahoo brought its portfolio to life through a series of curated brand experiences. Yahoo Sports hosted paddleboarding wellness sessions, while Yahoo Finance handed out branded tokens redeemable at an ice cream cart and beachside bar. Yahoo News distributed a printed Guide to Cannes, Yahoo Mail let guests send personalised postcards, and a Yahoo Search-themed bar served drinks from a search results-style menu.
Working with creative agency Amplify, John was responsible for producing groundplan layouts and area schematics. Using stakeholder drawings and direct input from the client, he developed a unified site plan that clearly identified all key elements—ensuring functionality and standout design. Highlights included the striking two-storey Beacon structure, which hosted international DJ Diplo during the opening night party, along with temporary roofing, bars, furniture, and bespoke cabanas positioned along the pier.
